Caledon Trust Company is a federally chartered Canadian trust company, regulated by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI). Its principal operating business is CommonWealth Fund Services Ltd., an investment administrator.
John Clark and Mark Damelin founded Caledon Trust in 2006, while operating the investment fund management company JC Clark Ltd. Prior to JC Clark, the two operated Connor Clark & Company, which John co-founded in 1977. Mark served in senior positions from 1981 to 1999, as part of Connor Clark & Company Group, including President of Connor Clark Private Trust, later sold to the Royal Bank of Canada.
Operating in a highly regulated environment was a conscious choice. The investors, investment fund managers, and service providers who interact with Caledon Trust Company and its subsidiaries appreciate the regulatory oversight of the company and its strong capital base. Unlike traditional financial institutions, Caledon Trust is independent, has no conflicts of interest, and is owned by company Chairman John Clark and his family.
Caledon Trust provides high net worth families and business owners a platform of traditional trust services without the concern of conflicts of interest in their investment products.
